Autumn Trends 2026

by ANTOINETTE STONHAM

Where do you even start with trends?

They come and go, so always choose what works for you, your lifestyle and your personality. Today we are building a wardrobe you can wear every day, not just one outfit that feels ‘on trend’ or fashionable for five minutes.

Each season I like to pull together some of the trends I am seeing and here they are for Autumn 2026. If you remember the '90s, you will definitely notice a few familiar looks coming through this season too.

Looking at Jackets

Let’s start with jackets, because they are one of the easiest ways to update your wardrobe for the cooler months.

Cropped Trench coat

And we are seeing a lot of different options this season.

  • Safari-style drawstring jackets are practical, easy to wear and great for everyday
  • Cropped trench coats are also looking very fresh this season. They feel modern, stylish and a little lighter than a full-length trench.
  • If you prefer a polished or more business-like look, double-breasted jackets are still a great option. They add structure and always look smart.
  • Fringing is appearing on jackets too, which can be a fun way to add texture and personality.
  • And while wool coats will always have their place, the classic long-line trench is really stepping forward again this season.
  • You will also see plenty of fur and faux fur around, which adds warmth, softness and a bit of fun.

Styling Tip : If you love an oversized jacket, try belting it at the waist to create shape. Or keep things simple with a blazer, jeans or wide-leg pants for an easy, wearable look.

There's a definite shift towards SHAPE this season

There is a definite shift towards shape this season, and that is good news for many women. Clothes that follow the curve of your body are often far more flattering than garments that drown your shape.

  •         Peplum tops and jackets are making a comeback, along with anything that draws attention to the waist.
  •          Frills and ruffles are also showing up, adding softness and a pretty finish.
  •          You will see lace, leather, long layers and wide-leg pants, and yes, you really can mix those elements together. Sometimes that contrast is what makes an outfit more interesting.

Accessories

Accessories are once again having a moment, and they are such an easy way to update what you already own.

  • Brooches are back, and I am loving them. From vintage pieces to modern styles, they can instantly lift a blazer, knit, dress or even a scarf.
  • Scarves are also being styled in different ways this season. One option is to fold a scarf and tie it around the waist, which can be a clever way to soften the tummy area.
  • Big, bold earrings are around too, but just be mindful of weight. The same goes for bags with chunky chain straps or heavy detailing. They may look fabulous, but if you are carrying them all day they can become uncomfortable very quickly.

    Colour

Red has always been one of my power colours and I’m excited to see it (and burgundy) everywhere this season. They are rich, confident colours that can lift an outfit instantly.

You can wear them boldly,  or with accessories bring them in to give a burst of colour to your neutrals like denim, beige or chocolate.

Brown is also stepping forward in a big way and for many wardrobes, it is becoming the new black. Just make sure you choose the right brown for your skin tone, because not every shade will suit everyone.

    Denim dress

    Denim

Denim is still very much with us, and honestly, does it ever really leave?

This season you will see dark denim, distressed styles and even printed denim. If it feels too casual for you, look for dressier cuts or darker washes that feel a little more polished.

I am not a huge denim person myself, but I do love a good denim dress.

    Shoes

    Autumn shoes

From material choice to colour, there is great footwear for everyone this year.

    • Suede is everywhere this season, from boots and loafers to sneakers and handbags. It adds such a lovely softness and texture to an outfit.
    • Kitten heels are also becoming more popular, which I think many women will be happy about. They are easier to wear, more comfortable and still look elegant.

My pick this season would be a chocolate brown suede knee-high boot, with a small block heel. Timeless, flattering and easy to style with so many outfits.

    layered textures

    Fabrics and layers

Texture is a big story this autumn, making its mark on every piece.

    • You will see velvet, satin, lace and leather all styled together, which creates depth and interest without needing lots of colour.
    • Heavier jackets are being paired with softer, floaty pieces, and that contrast works beautifully.
    • Plaids and checks are also around, but in softer colourways like chocolate, caramel, pink and grey.

    A little fun with colour

If you want to add something new to your wardrobe this season, try introducing a pop of colour.

Yellow, pink, teal, purple, icy blue, fuchsia and even lime green are all appearing.

You don't need to wear these colours head to toe. Sometimes a handbag, scarf, shoe or knit is enough to freshen up your wardrobe.

    My Final tip

As I always advise, before you head to the shops, shop your wardrobe first.

You probably already have pieces sitting there that can work beautifully this season, when styled in a different way.

Trends can be fun, but great style always comes back to knowing what suits you and wearing it with confidence.
