Step 1 of our Wardrobe Makeover Series - Start Small
Feeling Overwhelmed by Your Wardrobe? Start Small
This blog is the first in my Wardrobe Makeover Series, where I’ll share simple, practical steps to help you declutter and refresh your wardrobe without the stress. Each post will focus on one area, so you can make steady progress and feel lighter, happier, and more confident in your style.
Stressed, overwhelmed, and not sure where to start with your wardrobe makeover? You’re not alone! With spring here and warmer weather on the way, this is the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe and lighten the load.
I know that you’re thinking “I don’t have time.” So, the clutter keeps building up until it feels out of control. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to do it all at once. The secret is to start small, just one drawer at a time.
Step 1: The Underwear Drawer

Empty it all out onto your bed or on the floor sit down and go through each item, asking yourself:
- Do they fit me well?
- Is the elastic worn out?
- Do they roll or cut into me?
- Do they work with my outfits?
If the answer is yes to any of these, it’s time to let them go, even if they were expensive or barely worn.
Step 2: The Bra Drawer

Do the same here. As you sort, ask yourself:
- Is it comfortable?
- Do I actually reach for this one?
- Does it dig in or feel too tight?
- Is the underwire popping out?
- Do the straps keep sliding off?
If it doesn’t fit properly, it doesn’t belong in your wardrobe, no matter how pretty the colour or design.
Step 3: The Sock Drawer
Tip them out and pair them up. No partner? Don’t throw them out, odd socks make perfect dusting gloves! Then ask:
- Are they thin or full of holes?
- Have they lost their stretch?
- Do they look discoloured and ratty?
If so, thank them and let them go.
Step 4: Activewear

Do you only wear the same one or two pairs of gym pants?
Time to reassess the rest:
- Is the rise too low or too high?
- Is the length wrong, or do they cut into your calves?
- Does the waistband roll down so you’re always pulling them up?
- Does the stitching dig in?
- Does the print add bulk where you don’t want it?
If they don’t fit, flatter, or feel comfortable, they’re just taking up valuable space.
The Takeaway
Decluttering your wardrobe may feel overwhelming at first, but once you start, you’ll feel so much lighter, clearer, and happier. Remember: one drawer at a time. Even if you tackle just one each week, you’ll make progress without the stress.
