Trends for Summer 2023
This summer we have a real mix of styles and colours for you.
Do you like to wear shorts? Bermuda shorts seem to be at the top of the list, with the knee-length making them popular. However, if you are short like me, they can be tricky to wear. Make sure you don’t end up looking ‘all shorts’ and no legs. See my blog post on tips to choose the right shorts for your body shape. Style with a shirt for days at the office, then maybe swap the shirt for a bikini or tank top on your days off.
Every year we see florals and bright prints as a summer staple. And this year is no different. We have bright citrus and quite some sparkle and bling as well.
The vibe for summer 2023 is relaxed, monochrome, and comfortable. For more a relaxed street style ‘look’ why not consider khaki shorts, skirts and cargo pants styled with a crop top and an oversized shirt. Yes, that's right, khaki shorts, skirts, and cargo pants are back. To dress things up, bring in satin or silk or some bling.
This year you may want to add something interesting to your outfit, with 3-D floral appliques and other standout additions to your outfits. Think Rosette brooches! What started as a micro-trend has ‘blossomed’ fully, just in time for summer. Rosettes can be pinned to a simple white t-shirt, in the middle of a V neckline or on the lapel of your blazer. Sparkly sequin styling is trending for both day and night so if you love a good sparkle this one is for you. Why not transform a simple black dress with sequin braiding along the hemline, instead of buying something new.
Styling reminiscent of the late 70s and early 80s is on the increase.
You may have seen many different styles of crochet garment in store and on the streets lately - from swimwear to an evening dress. I do like a crochet maxi dress lined with a shorter slip. And styled with sparkly shoes it can look very stylish.
Remember the stone wash denim and rips of the 70s? These are popping back in again. I remember wearing them all myself, in the late 70s early 80s!
Matchy, matchy garments are still trending and are versatile to style, as one set can be split up and styled with other garments in your wardrobe. When it comes to shoes, sparkle and bling are everywhere, worn day or night. Slides and sneakers are still dominating. Have you noticed the chunky slides in bright citrus colours? They look comfy and fun. Platform shoes are the choice if you are looking for heels, and they give you height and balance.
See-through netted fabric garments styled with a slip or a coloured bra top are popular. Garments that resemble underwear and the satin slip style dress with lace inserts seem to have arrived.
This summer brings us a wide variety of trending styles that you can create from your existing wardrobe. But do remember, it's just a trend and you should dress for you, and your style and shape.
