Winter Trends for 2025

by ANTOINETTE STONHAM

Just because the temperatures are dropping doesn’t mean your style has to as well! Winter fashion in Australia 2025 is cosy textures, rich colours, and perfect for anyone who wants to look stylish, feel comfortable and own their own style.  Whether you lean to classic, boho, sporty, or like to mix it up, there’s something for you this season.

Master the Art of Layering

Let’s be real—Australian winter can have four seasons in one day. Mornings are frosty, lunch is mild, and evenings cool off again. The trick? Layering with purpose. Think longline cardis, sleeveless vests, thermal long-sleeves, and fine wool tees. Pack a scarf and beanie in your bag, which are easy to add or remove as needed.

Colour for 2025 – Rich and luxurious

Winter palettes are rich and luxurious — think chocolate brown, ruby red, forest green, and charcoal grey. But don’t be surprised to see softer pops like icy blue, rose pink, butter yellow, and the ever-stylish periwinkle brightening up dreary days. These colours work beautifully layered or as statement tones to lift a neutral outfit.

Jeans With Personality

Jeans are taking a new turn - it's whether it is skinny or wide leg, but this season it's about about bold details. Look for crystal embellishments, fringing, embroidery, and even metallic finishes. It’s all about expressing your individuality.

Coats to Command Attention

Your winter coat this year is all about structure with flair. Think oversized but not overwhelming.

A winter coat has volume and shape perfect for layering without drowning you in fabric. Look out for strong shoulders, and belted silhouettes to mid-calf. Classic neutral tones like camel, charcoal, and ivory give you a classic versatility, while you can add your personality with rich shades like burgundy, ruby red, or forest green to add that WOW factor. If you love faux fur like me you are in luck this season.

Oversized vintage style with subtle shoulder pads are back. Got an old leather coat at the back of your wardrobe? Dust it off, and have some fun with it.

Textures, Layers & Luxe Lounging

Velvet, boucle, faux shearling, and leather are everywhere this season.  Layering with textures gives your outfit an individual LOOK. You may even want to add a velvet blazer or a leather bomber jacket to your daily rotation. Layer them over a knit dress or wide-leg pants. Sporty loungewear is still going strong too especially in matching track sets with an urban edge.

This winter’s knits elegant, flattering and far from boring. Look out for asymmetric cuts, balloon sleeves, and interesting weaves in rich colours like mulberry, rust, and forest green.

Boots Made for More Than Walking

Boots are my favourite accessory and they on trend again, from knee-high classics to statement ankle boots. It's about making an impact while still being walkable. I've been focusing more on block heels, square toes and interesting finishes like suede, leopard  and snake skin prints, and fun colours. If boots aren’t for you take a look at chunky soled loafers, Mary Janes, Adidas-style sneakers, or pointy toed or ballet flats.

Accessories That Make an Entrance

This season’s accessories are bold and fun statement pieces. Charm necklaces, bold earrings, textured bags, and colourful arty scarves are in and bring personality to even the simplest outfit. They are the perfect way to keep your winter wardrobe feeling fresh without a total overhaul. Great accessories can turn your white tee and jeans into a WOW outfit.

And yes, patterned tights are back! (Though let’s be honest I wear them on or off-trend.) They’re a fabulous way to elevate your winter dresses or skirts.

Style That Feels Like You

Winter 2025 is all about mixing timeless staples with playful trend to achieve modern flair. Whether you love vintage finds, minimalist cuts, or a little glam sparkle, there’s something to make you feel confident, comfortable and stylish this season.

Remember ladies, these are just trends.

Dress for YOU. Start by shopping your own wardrobe, pick the pieces you’re excited to wear again, start creating outfits and make a list to fill the gaps - and then hit the shops with purpose.
